The PES has long worked with partners around the Mediterranean and in the Middle East to tackle the democratic challenges on the region. As the ‘Arab Spring’ spreads over the region, the PES welcomes the Arab people’s fight for freedom and democratic transition.

Middle-East Peace process

The PES supports a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders with the State of Israel and an independent, democratic, contiguous and viable State of Palestine living side by side in peace and security.

In September 2011, the PES called on the international community to recognize Palestine and to admit it as a full member of the United Nations.
