Since 2005, all members of the PES member parties are automatically members of the PES. Therefore they can register as PES activists.
PES activists are very active: they campaign in the street and on-line, exchange information and views and take part in PES meetings and activities such as Congresses and Councils. Activists from all over the EU also meet at their annual forum.
PES activists can create city groups (135 city groups have been created so far) in order to discuss European politics and coordinate grassroot activities.
In 2009, the PES Congress committed in its resolution “A New Way Forward, A Stronger PES” to strengthen the political engagement of its activists in EU politics by calling for a PES activists initiative.
They are an invaluable asset to the PES and are at the heart of re:new, the PES debate on progressive societies. Being a PES activist is a new level of involvement - the fourth house of European democracy.
