Environment

Environmental concerns do not stop at the borders of member states and must therefore be also addressed on the European level. Points of central concern are to to continuously improve the resource efficiency and sustainability of the economy and to preserve nature and wildlife. The protection of the environment must be minstreamed and further integrated into related policy sectors such as industry, transport and agriculture in order to improve policy coordination and achieve better results in protecting biodiversity on all levels.

Many species have become threatened during the last decades or even gone extinct. This trend must not only be halted but reversed. Same holds for the pollution of air, soil and water, which are the most general components of our ecosystem. Human activities have already greatly impacted this ecosystem and further harm must be prevented under all circumstances. The PES is committed to protecting and preserving not only Europe’s nature but to work towards a global solution. Deforestation must be halted, CO2 emissions must be capped and the pollution of oceans and rivers must be stopped in order avoid natural catastrophes like floods, droughts and storms that are caused by a disturbed ecosystem.
