“I am always very pleased when a member party contributes so enthusiastically to our efforts at the European level, and Mr Mesterházy showed a great interest in our work,” Mr Cordery said. “I am delighted to hear that Attila Mesterhazy fully backs our alternative way out of the crisis concrete proposals and is determined to work with the PES on putting a progressive and fair answer to the harsh consequences of the crisis.”
Attila Mesterhazy also expressed his willingness to contribute to the renewal of social-democracy in which the PES has engaged since the Prague Congress. These are hard times for MSZP, after it lost the elections and the governing position this year to a conservative Christian-democrat majority in parliament. Mr Mesterházy is likely to be elected the next president of the party at its congress this week.
