Each year IFM-SEI organizes several meetings where its young members get together. The activities are structured around the values of equality, democracy, peace, co-operation and friendship.
The 800 young people attending this year’s IMF-SEI summer camp enjoyed the camp’s highlight: “Train for Change”. After the first week all participants travelled together from the town of Doebriach in Austria to Jedovnice in Czech Republic on a train hired exclusively for the occasion.
While travelling between the two campsites in the “Train for Change”, the participants discussed the situation of children in African countries and also discussed Middle East politics with young people from Palestine and Israel. A major theme in debate was how to tackle racism. The participants also used role play to talk about economic inequality and to reflect on gender stereotypes.
The children themselves had decided one year before that the camp should be about ‘Action for Social Change’ and that the themes would be Gender and Sexuality, Discrimination and Prejudices, the World Economic System, Climate Change and Children’s Rights.
The International Falcon Movement – Socialist Educational International (IFM-SEI) is an international educational movement linked to the PES that works to empower children and young people and fight for their rights.
