PES manifesto - a new direction for Europe!

Leaders and delegates from
Europe's social democratic and socialist parties adopted a common manifesto for the 2009 European elections
at the PES Council in Madrid. The PES manifesto "People first - A New
Direction for Europe" offers a clear choice between progressive and
conservative policies, and puts forward over 70 concrete proposals to take
Europe in a new, progressive direction.

Over 300 PES activists attended
PES Council in Madrid, and participated in the training sessions offered

Over 250 member party delegates
attended PES Women annual conference held in Madrid two days before the
adoption of the PES manifesto. Read more

Calling for an ambitious recovery plan

PES Leaders, meeting in Madrid on
the eve of PES Council, called for an ambitious European recovery plan to safeguard employment
and prevent mass unemployment.

Czechs urged to play positive Presidency

The Czech Presidency were urged by PES party leaders to play a positive
role in finding a solution to the impasse on the Lisbon Treaty.

Europe through Women's Eyes

PS France honours PES Women President Zita Gurmai

The President of PES Women Zita
Gurmai has been invited by the French Parti Socialiste
to take
charge of the rights of women in their national committee.

The independent think-tank close
to the PES - Foundation for European Progressive
Studies - held its official launch event in Brussels
. The
Foundation will focus on debate, reflection, training and communication, with
an emphasis on four themes: democracy and diversity, social Europe,
environment policy and Europe in the world.
