Nous sommes à un tournant décisif pour que les politiques européennes ne soient plus dictées par une majorité de droite. A l’occasion des récents rendez-vous électoraux, les militants ont encore une fois démontré qu’ils sont plus mobilisés que jamais pour contribuer à la construction d’une Europe socialiste alternative et pour une intégration européenne approfondie.

You can imagine my surprise when I was proposed to take part in the project ‘La team Europe en campagne’ and join François Hollande’s digital campaign team for some days. A unique chance to be at the heart of one of the most exciting electoral campaigns, that, it goes without saying, I took immediately. With a rucksack on my shoulders, I headed to the train station, destination Paris – 59, avenue de Ségur (where François Hollande’s headquarters is located) – willing to find more about how his committee works and who are the people behind.

Le mois dernier, le secrétariat du PSE a pris la décision de soutenir financièrement des évènements organisés par des city groupes. Un processus d’appel à candidatures a été ouvert pour que les city groupes soumettent leurs propositions, parmi lesquelles 8 seraient sélectionnées pour obtenir une contribution de 500 euros pour 2012.
Nous espérons que ce premier essai sera un succès et que ce processus pourra par la suite être renouvelé chaque année pour aider à promouvoir l’organisation d’évènements, favoriser les échanges, et révéler le talent de notre famille grandissante.
Les projets qui seront soutenus financièrement cette année sont (sans ordre particulier) :
1 – Royaume-Uni – city group de Durham – une conférence sur le développement de l’intégration sociale à travers un nouveau contrat social et sur l’établissement des coopératives de travailleurs dans les aires délaissées – octobre 2012
2 – Allemagne – city groupe de Berlin – un évènement pan européen pour la journée de l’Europe – 9 mai 2012
3 – France – city groupe de Clermont-Ferrand – les journées du manifesto 2012 – 25-26 et 27 mai
4- Turquie – City groupe d’Istanbul – Une nouvelle Europe, Une nouvelle Turquie, Un nouveau Moyen-Orient
5- Espagne – city groupe de Madrid – un atelier des militants ibériques – mai 2012 – Réunir les militants espagnols et portugais pour planifier une stratégie de mobilisation pour 2014
6 – Irlande du Nord – city groupe de Belfast – Irlande du Nord et Europe, vers où aller maintenant ? – juin 2012
7 – Pays-Bas – city groupe de Nijmegan – le « Dragon’s Den » pour le chômage des jeunes – septembre 2012
8- Belgique – City groupe de Charleroi – Séminaire de réflexion et de proposition – septembre 2012
Si les évènements financés cette année remportent un grand succès, nous publierons un appel à propositions des city groupes en octobre prochain pour financer des projets pour 2013.

Last month the PES secretariat took the decision to open up limited funding for citygroups who organise their own events. A process was opened for citygroups to submit their ideas and from the submissions received 8 grants of €500 were awarded for 2012. We hope this will be the beginning of an annual process to help promote the events you organise together and to tap into the talent that exists amongst our growing family.
The Projects awarded, in no particular order, were:
1. UK- Durham Citygroup- A Conference on developing Social Inclusion through a new social compact and the establishing of worker co-operatives in areas of deprivation - October 2012
2. Germany- Berlin Citygroup- Pan European event for Europe day- 9th May 2012
3. France- Clermont Citygroup- Manifesto days 2012- 25th 26th and 27th of May
4. Turkey- Istanbul Citygroup- A New Europe, A New Turkey, A New Middle East-
5. Spain- Madrid Citygroup-Iberian Activists Workshop- May 2012- Bringing together Spanish and Portuguese activists to plan a shared mobilization strategy for 2014
6. Northern Ireland- Belfast Citygroup- Northern Ireland and Europe, where do we go from here? –June 2012
7. Netherlands- Nijmegan Citygroup- Dragon’s Den for Youth Unemployment- September 2012
8. Belgium- Charleroi Citygroup- Séminaire de réflexion et de proposition- September 2012.
If this year’s funded events are successful there will be a call for proposals to Citygroups next October to fund projects in 2013.

Les militants du PSE sont nombreux à suivre de près la campagne présidentielle française. Nous souhaitons tous vivement une grande victoire pour la gauche en France. Certains militants souhaitent venir en aide à nos camarades du PS français dans cette campagne. Or, ils peuvent le faire facilement près de chez eux.

Many of the PES activists are closely following the French presidential election. We are all wishing for a great victory for the left. The European Right is behind Sarkozy, if we want to deliver defeat to them, then PES activists should directly help our comrades of the French PS in this campaign.

The Role: A PES activist rapporteur is someone who is in charge of the activists’ contribution to the Fundamental Programme/Policy Forum on a specific theme. Your role will consist of:
- using Re:new to launch, follow up and reply to debates on the theme you are responsible for.
- being the bridge between the PES Secretariat and the other activists through Re:new. From the secretariat (policy advisers), you will receive documents and input such as discussion papers from networks, which you will be in charge of summarising and starting debate on them. Conversely, you will have the opportunity to contact the related political adviser to ask specific questions (i.e. once per week), or highlight particularly interesting debates that have taken place.
- sending reports on the state of the discussions on the platform. These reports could be forwarded by the secretariat to the networks.
- making and presenting a report on your theme of discussion and its outcome during the “Policy forum” in June.
- reporting back to the Re:new users about the outcome of the “Policy Forum”.
