On the EU 2020 Strategy ‘Transformation requires content’. That was the message from Party of European Socialist (PES) President, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen. In a strongly worded open letter to European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, the PES leader outlined the detailed progressive plan for Europe as proposed by the PES. He also expressed his concern that the Commission President was making bold statements about the EU’s future without backing them up with concrete actions.

Today in Strasbourg, the European Parliament confirmed the Barroso II Commission.
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of European Socialists (PES), said “With unacceptably high unemployment levels, sluggish growth and the Euro under attack from financial speculation, the European Union is in an economic crisis and needs the new Commission to get down to work now.”
