PES Women and PS France in Dijon

Child care campaign, 7 March 2007

Ségolène Royal's speech (French only)

On 7 March 2007, Zita Gurmai, President of PES Women, together with PES Women Executive Members Anna Karamanou, Marianne Mikko, Teresa Riera and PES Women Member Maria Badia visited socialist comrades in Dijon.

Françoise Tenenbaum, Deputy Mayor responsible for social affairs, health and solidarity, received PES Women Members at the Town Hall of Dijon to discuss and exchange views on child care facilities. The deputy mayor supports the PES Child care campaign and is glad to see that at European level we encourage such policies, which often affect local community life. Despite the good quality childcare system in Dijon, their aim is to expand the facilities creating 1000 extra places.

After the meeting at the Town Hall, PES Women members and deputy mayors visited a child care facility of Dijon. Zita Gurmai believes it is extremely important to have good quality facilities such as in Dijon which take into consideration the needs of children, the needs of working parents and the development of the neighbourhood and the community. We need to encourage local, regional and national governments to look at best-practises.

The trip to Dijon was also marked by Zita’s support to Ségolène Royal at the event “Dans la longue Marche des Femmes” organised at the Zénith of Dijon in light of International Women’s Day, where Ségolène addressed the public. She encouraged all women to fight and pursue their professional and family objectives. She wants to help women in their every day struggles; the fight against precarious jobs, the raise of minimum wages, the raise of 5% for small pensions, improve the social professional security system, the access to child care, the fight against violence against women, free-access to contraception for women under 25. Not only doesn’t Ségolène want to forget anyone, she wants to take care of everyone.

"I believe in Ségolène, not only because she wants to take everyone on board, give everyone a chance, work towards a more social France and Europe, but also because she promises women better possibilities in managing their day-to-day life. She is an inspiration for every women".
