Eichel: “Switzerland has to pursue a fair tax policy!“
14 February 2007
Berlin/Kassel. The chairman of the PES Lisbon network, former German minister for finance, Hans Eichel, welcomed the forthcoming action of the EU Commission against unfair Swiss taxation rules. “Switzerland profits in big style from the European Union and would be welcome as a member any time. However, the EU cannot accept that Switzerland uses its special role to lure companies from member states to Switzerland with unfair taxation rules”, says Eichel.
The chairman of the PES Lisbon network pointed out that Switzerland still has not acknowledged internationally agreed rules against tax evasion. Eichel says: “That is not Switzerland’s fault alone, but also that of a number of other states. However, Switzerland plays a central role in the struggle against unfair taxation rules and tax evasion.”
Eichel appealed to Switzerland to accept its responsibility. He reminded the EU Commission that clear words are necessary to bring Switzerland back into line.
