Activists in PES Congress

On a rainy day activists found their way to Porto to attend PES Congress. For the first time in history, PES opened its Congress to grassroots activists; and with all the rain they had to face to get to the Congress, they definitively deserved it!

During the Congress PES activists had the opportunity to follow plenary sessions live in specially reserved seats as well as to take part in several fringe meetings where political, social and economic issues were discussed with international politiciens and NGOs. Moreover, activists had their own fringe meeting on how to develop their network and activities all over Europe.

The speakers included: Philip Cordery, Secretary General of PES, Tim Clapham (Labour Party UK), International Labour Responsible, Sylvia Moore (Labour Party UK), Founding member of Geneva’s Euro Socialistes, Nicolas Nordman (Parti Socialiste France, Paris Federation), Europe’s Secretary Federal and Eric Sundström (SAP Sweden), founding member of PES Stockholm section.

This Congress marked a new kind of involvement for activists in PES life. They were able to really take part in debates at fringe events and they could finally meet other activists in person.

If it wasn't for the activists PES Congress wouldn't have been so lively and dynamic.
