PES Women launched its e-petition on 1 March 2006. On international women's day (8 March), PES Women organised an event at the European Parliament in order to collect even more signatures. Then on 14 March, Zita Gurmai presented this petition to José Manuel Barroso, European Commission's President, urging him to take action against the trafficking of women. PES Women presented the final list of signatures to Commissioner Frattini on 8 June (on the eve of the World Cup).
