


The Party of European Socialists is promoting a leading role for the EU in settling the crisis in the Middle East
Promoting a leading role for the EU and a rapid cease-fire in the region, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen (PES President) discusses on a regular basis with PES Foreign Affairs Ministers: Erkki Tuomioja from Finland's EU Presidency; Massimo D'Alema, Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs; Frank Walter Steinmeyer, German Minister for Foreign Affairs and Jean Asselborn, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs from Luxembourg and coordinator of PES Foreign Affairs Ministers Network.
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen and the Ministers are exchanging views on the crisis between Israel and Lebanon examining, in particular, prospects for the international community's role, the future commitment to the reconstruction of Lebanon and sustainable conditions for peace in the region with rapid political solution to the current conflicts.
