Rasmussen congratulates Commission for listening to Parliament and Council

4 April 2006

The Party of European Socialists today thanked the European Commission for sticking to the compromise on the Services Directive agreed by the European Parliament and the European Summit.

"There have been a lot of legitimate concerns that the Commission was trying to alter the text but good sense has prevailed" said Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of European Socialists. "Europe will soon be able to benefit from an open market in services while protecting the rights of consumers, workers and essential public services.  This is just what Europe's Socialist and Social Democratic Parties have been working for from the very begining of this long process."
