PES in action
The PES is the political party of Europe’s socialists and social democrats. As such, the PES develops socialist and social democratic political priorities and policies for the EU.
At the last European elections of June 2004, the PES presented its manifesto “Growing Stronger, Together”
with our commitments for the five-year political term of the EU until 2009:
- Boost Europe’s growth, fight poverty and create more and better jobs;
- Bring the European Union closer to its citizens;
- Manage migration and pursue social integration;
- Build a more secure, sustainable, peaceful and just world;
- Promote Europe as an area of democracy and equality.
The PES commissioned a report, after the European elections, from an independent High Level Group, chaired by then EU Commissioner for Trade Pascal Lamy, to present policy recommendations in relation to the EU policy agenda 2004-2009, which resulted in the report ”A Europe of progress”
.
On the basis of the manifesto and this report, the PES addressed its claims to the new European Commission and Parliament as well as the European Council in our declaration “Developing Europe 2005-2009” in December 2004.
