PES President meets Germany’s new political leaders

Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, PES President, met Germany’s new political leaders. Matthias Platzeck, the new SPD party leader, and Hubertus Heil, the new General Secretary of the SPD, promised strong support for the European party after months of electoral campaigning. Peer Steinbrück, the new German finance minister and vice-chairman of the SPD, and Franz Müntefering, vice-chancellor of Germany and leader of the Party until November, signaled an active role in the ministerial coordination of Europe’s social democrats and socialists.

"I am confident that Germany’s Social Democrats keep the country on track with structural reforms. They stand for modernization with social balance and pro-European policies in the German government” commented Poul Nyrup Rasmussen after the series of meetings.
