The New Social Europe

The PES’ headline political theme is the New Social Europe, representing the socialist and social democratic vision of the future of the European Union and its Member States. It is a vision of a fairer, more inclusive, and more dynamic society, which we together are committed to creating.

The PES Congress of 7-8 December 2006 set out a unanimous resolution on the “New Social Europe: Ten principles for Our Common future”  pdf  pdf  pdf  pdf pdf_LV  pdf_DE (consult our pamphlet  pdf  pdf FR  pdf ES), outlining the guidelines of our roadmap for building the New Social Europe.

The resolution takes its inspiration from the comprehensive report on “The New Social Europe”  pdf  pdf DE  pdf ES  pdf FR (printable version  pdf  pdf DE  pdf ES  pdf FR    (Italian version provided by DS Italypdf_LV  (Latvian version provided by LSDSP Latvia)  presented by PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen and Jacques Delors, founding President of Notre Europe and former President of the European Commission.

The New Social Europe is the result of an 18-month process of reflection and deliberation between all PES member parties and member organisations, chaired by Poul Nyrup Rasmussen and Jacques Delors. The debates were chaired and animated by Hans Karlsson (SAP), Angelica Schwall-Düren (SPD), Stephen Timms and James Purnell (Labour UK), Marisol Pérez Domínguez (PSOE), Anna Diamantopoulou (PASOK), Anne Van Lancker (SPA).
