The PES and the world
The Party of European Socialists is deeply involved in international issues. Europe has a major role to play on the international scene and must therefore show its commitments vis-à-vis the rest of the world. So is the PES, committed to make this world a safer place, a place of shared prosperity, and place where human rights and human dignity are at the centre of our thinking and actions.
The Party of European Socialists strives to build a new and better world. It is the main challenge for humanity today. A major effort in the fight against poverty and environmental degradation, both of which are closely linked, is now a matter of practical politics within our reach. More than ever before, humanity has the resources, the technology and the intelligence to set about the steady elimination of poverty and environmental destruction. This is a wholly realistic goal for the new century. The only ingredient we need to make it happen is the strong political will of the international community. We must go beyond declarations of good intent and political commitments that lack the resources they need.
The Party of European Socialists contributes to a new peaceful and multilateral world order, which still has to be developed. It is absolutely crucial as recent events have fully demonstrated this new feature of world politics.
To strengthen the European Union policy and its role as a global player, the PES has engaged various set of events and initiatives.
