Message to Dacia workers
27 March 2008
Commenting on the strike of workers at the Dacia-Renault car plant in Romania, PES president Poul Nyrup Rasmussen said "I have every sympathy with Dacia workers in Romania demanding a fairer share of the profits made by their work. With globalization there are too many workers living in fear of their wage being undercut, and too many companies willing to threaten to relocate to a country where workers will sell their labour more cheaply. We have to put an end to these fears and these threats, especially within the European Union. Globalization is not a justification for global greed or global exploitation. This is why we need a strong PES, a strong trade union movement within Europe and globally. I hope the strike in Romania can be resolved to the satisfaction of the workers and their families, and to the satisfaction of Renault."
