New book – ‘Putting children first’
2 October 2007
The PES Group in the Committee of the Regions has published an excellent new book ‘Putting children first: implementing the Barcelona targets at local, regional and national levels’.
The book comes out of a conference hosted by the Group in May, and features short, sharp articles from some 15 contributors ranging from a European Commissioner, the Mayor of Bonn, a Bulgarian MP and the Leader of the Socialist Workers Party of Luxembourg (who used to be a child care manager).
There are also 17 one-page descriptions of local child care provision by members of the Committee of the Regions from Finland in the north to Greece in the south and from Romania in the east to Portugal in the west.
If that wasn’t enough, the publication features lovely quotes about childhood from famous people. Do you know who said “All children have a touch of genius it’s just important to identify it”? See below for the answer.
For an overview of why child care is a such a hot topic for parents, governments and employers alike – and for a summary of what is going on across Europe to expand and improve child care facilities – there can’t be a better, or more accessible, read than ‘Putting children first’.
For your copy of ‘Putting children first’ email the PES Group in the Committee of the Regions secretariat. It is available free in English, French and German.
Congratulations to the PES Group in the Committee of the Regions for this great contribution to the PES childcare campaign!
The quote is from Charlie Chaplin!!
