First PES action week on childcare a success!
In four European cities, PES activists city groups supported the PES childcare campaign and created a wonderful example how campaigning on grassroots level can be a great success.

At a conference on child care, hosted by the PES Group in the Committee of the Regions, the PES demanded strong proposals from the European Commission to increase the number, quality and affordability of child care across Europe – as promised five years ago! Regional, national and European politicians united today in calling on the EU to honour its commitments to provide children with pre-school care.
Romanian child care campaign: Over 2,300 signatures collected in only one week time
The Romanian Social-Democratic Party has publicly endorsed the PES child care campaign “Put Children First” with a mass signing event for the PES child care Book, and by a conference on child care, held in the Romanian Parliament. In one week the PSD collected over 2.300 signatures in support of child care for everyone.
Regions debate child care
The PES group in the Committee of the Regions (CoR) is dedicating its annual conference to the PES child care campaign, with a meeting in Brussels on child care policies and achieving the so-called Barcelona child care targets. The conference features high level speakers including PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, European Commissioner Vladimir Spidla and Alex Bodry (Leader of LSAP Luxemburg) and many top regional and national politicians.
On the Road with the child care book
Florence was the latest stop for the PES child care book on its European tour. Over 300 delegates and visitors at the Italian Democratic Left Congress in Florence signed the child care book that contains the declaration.

At their Congress in Warsaw ECOSY – the Young European Socialists – agreed a resolution supporting the PES child care campaign and making the inspiring claim that “providing good quality public child care for free to all children across Europe is acting today to ensure better tomorrow”.
