First PES action week on child care a success!
In four European cities, PES activists city groups supported the PES child care campaign and created a wonderful example how campaigning on grassroots level can be a great success.

European elections in Bulgaria decided
Bulgarian socialists remain with 5 seats in European Parliamenty - PES activists showed their support on Youtube. Unfortunately the socialist platform only came in second at yesterday's - 21 May 2007 - elections with no clear winner. The socialist group in the European Parliament lost one seat and the Bulgarian socialists send now five MEPS instead of six.

An insight into PES Congress
About fifteen PES activists from the PS federation of Paris attend PES Congress in Porto December 2007 as individual guests. Not only have they organised a stand and presented their activities. They also had the chance to attend plenary sessions and to discuss with top level European politicians future grass roots involvement in European politics.
A few weeks ago, they have published a journal about the Congress and their view about latest developments in the Party of European Socialists. Their aim was to give an insight into PES Congress and they hit it big.

The French presidential elections: An example for cross-border campaigning
A lot of cross-boarder activities have been organised between activists of PES sister parties for the French election campaign. PS France expatriate branches have been extremely active in promoting the socialist candidate.
The European dimension of the French PS campaign shows the growing cross-border interest and solidarity within the socialist and social democratic family.

The blog of the quarterly electronic journal Social Europe has been launched. It brings you blog discussions about socialist Europe in an academic setting and is a place where rich discussions can truly promote intellectual exchange. Feel invited to contribute at www.blog.social-europe.eu.
Discuss now the French presidential election with www.blog.social-europe.eu. The debate is based on the two articles “French Presidential Election system is flawed” by Steven Hill from the New America Foundation, Washington DC, and an article untitled “Why Ségolène can win…”. First commentators included Prof Donald Sassoon amongst others.


One year of PES activists: Political history being made
PES activists is a phenomenon – and like all successful initiatives it is growing in ways that exceed our expectations. This is because PES activists is genuinely happening at the grassroots. Since its launch in May 2006 almost 6,000 have joined. Envisaged primarily as a web-based community by the Party of European Socialists its biggest success has been the setting up of PES groups in cities across Europe. Ten PES groups have been set up from Paris to Warsaw, from Geneva to Stockholm and another 5 are in the process of being set up in Barcelona, Kopenhagen and elsewhere.

PES delegation to the US meets PES activists in NY and DC
During the PES delegation visit to the US (15-18 April 2007), PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen has not only held a series of discussions with Democrat Congressmen and Senators – including Governor Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee – as well as leading progressive think tanks and other organizations. He also met PES activists in New York and Washington DC.



PES Secretary General celebrates EU 50th birthday with PES activists in Poznan, Poland
Philip Cordery, PES Secretary General, attended the celebrations of EU 50th birthday in Poznan, Poland, organized by Marek Siwiec, Vice-President of the European Parliament.


PES activists officially launched in Portugal
“With PES activists the PES motivates the debate on European politics between 2 million members of socialist and social democratic parties throughout Europe. We, in Portugal, want to play an active role in completing this challenge.” It was standing room only for those who arrived late, because Portuguese socialists attended the conference in great numbers – even PS president António de Almeida Santos was present.
