Interview with Martin Schulz
Martin Schulz, the chairman of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament is our interviewee of September. What are the strategies of the socialist group to give the EU more democratic structures? How do the work and the cooperation between socialists in the EP differ from national parliaments?


Interview to Kurt Beck, Party leader of the German SPD:
Germany’s social democratic party leader Kurt Beck congratulates Poul Nyrup Rasmussen for the strong performance of the PES: "The PES has evolved to a strong forum for trend-setting politics and a policy making socialist network in the European institutions."


The launch of the PES activists
On the 9th of May 1950 Robert Schuman gave his speech on a united Europe. The date has become “Europe Day”, a symbol the unified Europe. On this date, the PES launched its new network which brings together members of Europe's socialist and social democratic parties. Among the guests at the launch were Margot Wallström, Commissioner for Institutional Relations, and MEP Jo Leinen, chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs in the European Parliament.


Interview to Finland's Minister of Finance Eero Heinäluoma
PES activists get to ask their questions to Eero Heinäluoma on the Finnish Presidency from July to December 2006. Heinäluoma has been an influential figure in Finnish and international politics since the 1970s. In 2002, Heinäluoma was elected general secretary of the Finish Social Democratic Party and in 2005 he became the party’s chairman.


Interview with Poul Nyrup Rasmussen,
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen is the President of the Party of European Socialists (PES). He has played a leading role in Danish politics for over a decade as Prime Minister and leader of the Danish Social Democrat Party. Poul Nyrup Rasmussen is also chairman of the Global Progressive Forum and a Member of the European Parliament.
