What should be the content of a Social Charter?
Date2006/07/14 15:28 by: Andreas HelleSi le PSE décide de continuer à défendre la constitution en la dotant d’une Charte sociale contraignante, quel devrait en être le contenu?
If the PES chooses to continue with the constitution by developing a binding Social Charter, what should be its content?

Re:What should be the content of a Social Charter?

Content of a Social Charter?
Date2006/08/25 11:55 by: Nils WörnerI would like to underline Martin's statement with a text wich I found on a "vote-no" website. This vote-no website is run by a business lobby and reveals (by reading it "counterclockwise") how social the constitution would have been (I still hope that all doubting socialists in Europe will realise what chance they miss by blocking the constitution). The business lobby in UK states (and might still rejoice that the French blocked the constitution):
The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights was drawn up in 2000. It was supposed to “clarify” what rights EU citizens already have, but it also set out new rights and created the potential for many new legal claims against businesses. [...] This would be very damaging for [...] business. The rights and objectives in the Charter would mean a major expansion of the EU’s regulatory powers – for example, over health and safety, rights at work, protection against dismissal, rights to “consultation”, collective bargaining and the right to strike.
(www.vote-no.com/webelieve/business.aspx) End quotation .
If people are not able to see what a chance for a social Europe they are risking to miss, maybe it is a good idea to double the text in a social charta. I won't give up on the Constitution!
