Is Europe lossing to China and India?
Date2007/02/16 13:48 by: Ruy CamposAccording to some projections, in 2050, US, China and India will be the largest and strongest economies in the world... Europe is going to lose its "moral" authority around the world and it will not be strange to see China to impose its rules to the world. We see in Africa, China is much more involved than Europe! With all these abortion liberalization around Europe, in 2050, we are going to lose some 50 million people!

Date2007/02/18 04:04 by: Dylan FigueiredoWages have declined so steeply in certain regions and sectors that it is hard for most European workers to have more than two children, even on two salaries. Furthermore, Europeans are more aware than ever before that the quality of child raising is more important than the quantity of children brought into the world. In terms of moral authority, Europeans have never had much in Africa where corporations continue to lay waste to entire countries for the sake of profit. Although I am critical of China's government and its authoritarian measures, I do not see the rise of China and India as a problem for democratic socialists in Europe. Asian countries have earned the right to sit at the table of diplomacy. Socialism is incompatible with racism.

Date2007/02/21 00:31 by: JoeI think that historcally it is more strange that the west dominates!
The reality of China though is that it is Americas workshop, but thats all.
The EU does not create enough internal demand and there is enough capacity for the EU to build an internal economy, protect from outside markets, in the same way the US does. What appears to be globalised China is really just American products being made near Hong Kong and shipped on to San Diego.
China makes 1,000,000 pair of shoes to buy one Boeing 747.
The EU has no such realationship with any nation, yet Russia is just a stones throw from the EU, we refuse to make use of it, to keep the US happy.
Thats why we will 'lose'. -

Date2007/02/21 19:47 by: Dylan FigueiredoThe west no longer dominates, and is quite bitter about this. China is much more than simply "America's workshop": increasingly it is its own industrial powerhouse with immense trading connections around the world. The EU does not have "internal demand" like America because America has a higher birthrate and a higher level of immigration (both legal and illegal). China's industrial heartland is much more than just Hong Kong nowadays. They make much more than just one million shoes and are able to make their own 747s, thank you very much. Your insinuation that "we" (west European capitalists, presumably) could easily exploit Russia's market and resources if we wanted to sounds like 1930s propaganda.
