PES activists are one of the new initiative and a historical turning point. It is still under debate how to be organised efficiently and under the given circumstances and resources. In my point of view it should be organised transnationally in a modern non-bureaucratic networking way. My suggestion is to establish a transnational core group or task force of PES activist ambassadors from different European countries. A task force who are especially engaged in recruiting new PES activist and to disseminate and exploit the policy of a New Social Europe and policies of environment and climate.
The task force should be ambassadors and mentors in starting local transnational groups who can work more directly and action oriented. The local groups should be organised thematically following the structure of the new social Europe model outlined in the paper and in addition directly connected virtually to each other through the internet etc. This idea is opposite to the traditional way of thinking hierarchy and organisation, which often results in local groups without interrelations and only without international dimension in thinking and acting policy. But and this to be underlined the international dimension and networking is the core issue at stake of the organisation.
It demands resources of cause e.g. travels expenses, but it can be done by pin point a core group for the task force by finding people who are committed to European policy. Get them together for some days to discover and discuss the common goals and what to do to spread the idea and policy and get organised in networking groups, in addition to discus how to support this by new technology, IT and internet. The task force of core group of ambassadors and mentors should develop and action plan including conferences, seminars and workshops. This could be done accordingly to activities and public hearings in the European Parliament and conferences of the European Commission where there are relevant topics.
We have to start somewhere.

Hi every one, my name is Mario Perales and I am a member of the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) and activist of the European Socialist Party, I don’t have too much free time to be a good PES activist, but for me the most important question about Social Democracy is to organize a model able to tackle the challenges of the future: Environment, globalization, loosing of Welfare State, growing liberalism, the injustice distribution of wealth of the world…. I think that to tackle all this kind of questions is absolutely necessary to start building a strong European Socialist Party, able to confront in the international field, the liberal approaches.
Europe must to be the example of a sustainable society, strong in equal rights and compromised with the well been of the rest of the world. All that is impossible without a strong socialist movement in Europe. Let’s go build it together.nilswoerner - 08-01-2007 16:38:38
