Hi!
I am a 29 yr old Irish guy. Having worked abroad for six yrs (US, Germany, Spain) I came home in 2004 and joined the Irish Labour Party. I am always looking for areas Ireland can learn from Europe. I am interested especially in the 'Nordic model', which combines high levels of equality and social cohesion with world-class economic competiveness.
With the election next week, myself and a colleague are travelling to Stockholm this weekend. We want to listen and learn from fellow Social Democrats. Staying away from the Irish pubs of Stockholm will be the only hard part :-)

Good luck getting to gribs with the high level of Equality and Universialism of Welfare available in Stockholm. I enjoyed living there in my younger years and can only dream of Ireland having half as much of the levels of equality as Sweden.

Hi Aidan! I'm working for the Swedish Social Democrats in the European Parliament. I'm pleased to hear that you're going to Sweden to follow the last exciting days of the election campaign. I just wanted to tell you that in spring 2005, we (the Swedish, Danish and Finnish SD delegations in the EP) published a report on the Nordic model that tries to explain what the model consists of and why it has been so successful in the Nordic countries. You can access the report on the website of the Socialist Group - http://www.socialistgroup.org/gpes/searchdisplay.do?id=7037&lg=en
I apologize in advance for the entrance fees that some Irish pubs have in Stockholm... Have fun!
