Austrians vote for fairer society
1 October 2006
Commenting on the election results in Austria that make Alfred Gusenbauer’s Social Democrats the largest party, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of European Socialists said:“Austrians have voted for a fairer society. They are looking for a much stronger commitment to the well-being of all citizens. Austrians have had enough of the conservatives.”
“Austria should emerge from these elections with a new Government coalition led by Alfred Gusenbauer. It is the start of a new era and Austria can leave behind the international embarrassment of a coalition with the far-right.”
